Meteorological Office Publishes Warning Levels and Opens Warning Service

The Meteorological Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published the warning levels it will use and opened its warning service. Warnings are issued at four levels: Level 1, Advisory; Level 2, Warning; Level 3, Severe Warning; and Level 4, Emergency Warning. The level of a warning reflects both the likelihood of the weather and the impact it is expected to have on the sites, services and citizens of the Network.

Warnings are issued for eight hazards: strong wind, heavy rain and flooding, snow and ice, fog, thunderstorms, extreme heat, extreme cold and coastal storm surge. Every warning states the area and period it applies to, the level, the action expected and the time at which it will next be reviewed. Warnings at Level 4 are issued jointly with the Emergency Management Department.

Warnings are published on this site and sent by email to the registered contacts of member organisations and to citizens who have registered for the service. Member organisations are asked to nominate their contacts by writing to contact@meteorology.gov.vin; citizens may register by the same means. No warning is in force at the time of this announcement.
